The Yarjau family of Campbell River, British Columbia, says this has been an ongoing problem since January, when their 12-year-old pet cat, Tabby, first came home with a portion of her fur shaved. Jo Jo Yarjau, 18, said that she knew something was wrong because Tabby -- not a particularly cuddly cat at the best of times -- was acting especially irritable and wouldn't eat.

    Four California children who lost their mother in a cave-in earlier this month were orphaned when their father died in a shooting outside a San Bernardino bar. Adrian Cardona, 35, got into an argument at Lulu’s Hideout around 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to the San Bernardino Sun. He was asked to leave the bar and was shot dead as he stood near his car, according to police. Cardona had four children with Annalisa Santana, 34, who died in a July 6 ice cave collapse northeast of Seattle, Washington.

    The founder of Lebowski Fest, a traveling party that celebrates all things pertaining to the Coen brothers film "The Big Lebowski," was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday evening after allegedly smoking marijuana outside a bowling alley where the festivities were being held. Metro police officers responded to a complaint on Saturday after Lebowski Fest founder Williams Russell, 39, and an un-named co-defendant were reported "not acting normal," according to a police report. Cops said Russell was smoking marijuana in the parking lot of the bowling alley when they showed up, and that at one point he "took a bladed stance" and threatened one of the officers.

Police in the city of Arab, in the northern part of the state, said suspect Brad Lynn Hemby, 26, and a female accomplice were chased from a house they were robbing after the homeowner caught them in the act. Hemby and the woman drove off in a Chevrolet truck with officers in pursuit.

Manus Shannon, 27, was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm Saturday after accidentally shooting two guests in the shoulder and hand at a Fourth of July party on Chicago's Far South Side, according to Chicago police. Sunday was Shannon's birthday; he spent it in jail.

    Canadian police said Daniel Boria took to the skies Sunday  in a lawn chair with 110 helium balloons attached to it. Boria, who told the CBC he's a skydiver, planned the stunt to advertise his cleaning products business in Calgary, Alberta. Boria told the Calgary Sun that strong winds pushed him off course, forcing him to parachute into a field about a mile from the grounds.

    Authorities say the mother of a 6-week-old old baby girl left her daughter on the side of the road in Pasadena, Maryland, on July 4. Sandra McClary, 26, faces child neglect and reckless endangerment charges after her blue-eyed baby girl, whose name has not been released, was discovered by a local pastor around 11:30 on Saturday night. Bishop Raymond Showell told the Capital Gazette that he and his wife were driving home from his church when they spotted something in the road.
