Baked by Melissa creator reveals that founding her cupcake company helped her lose weight
Melissa Ben-Ishay, creator of Baked by Melissa — you know, your favorite bite-sized cupcakes — sat down with Claudia and Jackie Oshry of The Morning Breath and chatted all things cupcakes. In 2008, Ben-Ishay was working in advertising and was not happy. She would frequent the diner down the street from her office and nearly every day would pick up two large cupcakes since, like most of us, she couldn’t decide on which flavor. Ben-Ishay would promise herself that she would only eat half of each cupcake, but she obviously ate both.
More recently, though, as Ben-Ishay tells the Oshrys, she has “revolutionized the cupcake and made it bite-sized.” And in the process, she lost weight thanks to her bite-sized business. During the development of Baked by Melissa, the entrepreneur was able to have multiple flavored cupcakes, and because they are so tiny, she could eat 10, which only equal one normal size cupcake.
