Dodgers' Puig sits with strained shoulder
Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig was a late scratch from Wednesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of a strained right shoulder.
After warming up with the rest of the team, Puig took five swings in the batting cage and then walked off the field in frustration, according to MLB.com. He went in to the Dodgers' clubhouse and later emerged without his jersey. He returned to the clubhouse without doing any further baseball activities
"Yasiel was a little sore," manager Don Mattingly said. "I'm not sure what all that was from."
The Dodgers are not sure if Puig's shoulder strain is related to Tuesday's benches-clearing incident with the Diamondbacks.
In that game, Puig was hit in the nose by a 92 mph pitch by Arizona's Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, Greinke hit Arizona catcher Miguel Montero in the back. When Greinke came to bat in the bottom of the seventh, Kennedy hit Greinke, sparking the brawl.
During the melee, Puig threw several punches and had to be restrained by teammates before he was ejected from the game.
In his first nine games, the 22-year-old Puig is hitting .471 with two doubles, four homers and 10 RBI.
The Dodgers are listing him as day-to-day.
