MLB agent fired amid allegations he filmed baseball players showering at his home
A baseball agent was fired by his agency and suspended by the Major League Baseball Players Association amid allegations he used a hidden camera to film players he represented, league sources familiar with the situation told Yahoo Sports.
Jason Wood, the president of baseball for CSE, was allegedly caught filming a player showering at his home, according to a report by FanRag. While Yahoo Sports couldn’t corroborate the nature of the filming, sources confirmed the MLBPA is investigating allegations Wood (no relation to the ex-MLB player) recorded players at his St. Louis home.
Multiple players, including Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi, have stayed with Wood during the offseason, according to sources. His client list also included Jake Odorizzi, David Phelps, Matt Reynolds, Ryne Stanek and a number of top prospects, Colorado’s Riley Pint and Atlanta’s Joey Wentz among them.
Wood built his original agency, Arland Sports, with aggressive recruiting of amateur players across the Midwest. The Atlanta-based CSE acquired Arland last April and named Wood president of its baseball division. His suspension by the MLBPA prevents him from representing players, and the union could decertify him, pending the investigation into the hidden-camera allegations.
In a statement, CSE president Danny Martoe said: “For over 32 years, CSE Talent has prided itself on our moral and ethical standards and have built a solid reputation within the industry. We take pride in working with people who represent these values. It’s unfortunate that CSE Talent aligned itself with someone who didn’t uphold these same standards and therefore we chose to terminate with cause Wood’s employment.”
In a statement released to Yahoo Sports, Wood said: ”The allegations that have surfaced today are absurd and untrue. Over the past 13 years I have worked tirelessly to build a successful agency through integrity and hard work. I am disappointed that there are those who have chosen to spread such irresponsible and harmful rumors.”
Wood declined further comment.
