Ulticom Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) Now Includes Diameter SS7 Interworking Functionality

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ--(Marketwire - Sep 12, 2012) - Ulticom, the industry leader in signaling solutions, announces the availability of Diameter to SS7 interworking functionality as part of Ulticom's Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) family. This DSC feature provides seamless interworking capabilities for authentication of applications like Mobile Video and Wi-Fi Offload.

"We see Wi-Fi becoming a seamless extension of the Mobile Network Operator's network. The intelligent offload of Wi-Fi data is a major component of the Mobile Network Operators overall strategy," said Oliver Korfmacher, Head of Presales for Policy and Session Management of Siemens Communications, Media and Technology (CMT). "The Ulticom DSC's SS7 authentication capability is a critical component of this need."

"To make Wi-Fi Offload a reality, a smart, seamless network access control solution, like that offered by Siemens Session Manager, is critically needed by the Mobile Network Operators," said Jamie McArdle, Vice President of Sales at Ulticom. "Ulticom's DSC provides the ability to integrate multi-generation equipment to provide authentication in an Evolved Diameter Signaling Network."

The Diameter to SS7 interworking feature provides authentication interworking for three major Diameter interfaces: Zh -- for mobile services authentication, Wx -- for 3GPP AAA services, and SWx -- for AAA in the evolved packet core. In each case, the DSC takes the role of the HSS, and works with an HLR to provide the necessary authentication information.

The Ulticom DSC provides Mobile Network Operators, Roaming Hub Operators, and Telecom Equipment Manufacturers with a turnkey Linux-based software solution that can be easily integrated with new or existing products.

In addition to providing the ability to interwork between Diameter and SS7 networks for authentication, the product is suitable for standalone deployment as a centralized router, an edge agent, and a Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) for policy management systems.

The Ulticom DSC can also be deployed as an integrated component solution for applications that require Diameter Load Balancing on any commercially available Linux-based hardware platform.
