Since ex-Corrie star Sean Wilson quit playing Martin Platt in the soap back in 2005, he’s undertaken a rather unexpected career change.

The 53-year-old actor founded the Saddleworth Cheese Company in 2009, and has been manufacturing cheese ever since.

Now a ‘master cheese maker’, he’s taking on a new role – as a lecturer in cheese at the college that he studied at in Nantwich, Cheshire.

“At the request of Reaseheath College I’ll be returning to the class where it all started 10 years ago, as the lecturer,” Wilson announced on Twitter.

He added that he’ll be teaching ‘cheese making courses for all standards’, as well as a soft cheese course starting next year.

Wilson has made an award-winning blue cheese called Smelly Ha’peth, and has several cheeses stocked in Asda supermarkets.

The actor quit Corrie in 2005 after refusing to take part in a storyline which found his character Martin Platt, who was married to veteran character Gail Platt, sleeping with an underage girl.

He told the Daily Star: “I will act again but never with Coronation Street. They were very rude to me when I left.

“I would rather walk down any other street even if I had a nail in my shoe.”

Despite the remarks, he did briefly return to the soap earlier this year.
