Solange Is One of the Few Humans Who Could Pull Off This Metallic Orange Helmut Lang Look

The mullet-style dress first appeared on the brand's Spring 2018 runway last month.

There was a lot from Helmut Lang Seen by Shayne Oliver's much-hyped Spring 2018 runway show that we liked — the bags, the leather, the $2,450 trenches. But there was also a lot that intimidated us, as the very best collections do. I, for one, am probably not the type of person who could convincingly slip into a bondage-inspired bralette and patent flares for a night on the town — though there are plenty of people who can pull off the brand's sexy, slick and refreshed wares better than I. The range was destined to be a celebrity favorite just as soon as Oliver took his final bow, and famouses are just starting to catch up.

Let's start with Solangeah, Solange! — who wore a particularly fantastic look from Helmut Lang's latest to host the Surface Travel Awards on Wednesday in New York City. Coming fresh off two sold-out gigs at Radio City Music Hall, the Grammy winner opted for an orange foil mini dress with a maxi skirt attachment — i.e., mullet-style. The bodice featured that lingerie-inspired bra detailing that was so prominent throughout this collection, paired with a chest cut-out and a corseted waist on the skirt (worn somewhat differently from how the look was styled on the runway).

Solange also debuted a new hairstyle — an edgy, closely cropped platinum cut — which she wore with (admittedly heavy-looking) statement earrings and glossy gold eye makeup.

If anyone's going to make us want to try out the newly vamped-up Helmut Lang, it's Solange, though we've come to terms with the fact that it won't look nearly as excellent on us as it does on her. Those Knowles genes, you know?
