Usher, and his wife of two years, Grace Miguel, announced they are splitting after being together for almost a decade.
“After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple,” the pair said in a joint statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday. “We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives. The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”
According to TMZ, the two have not filed any divorce papers yet but it looks like they are heading toward an official split on paper.
The couple called it quits just months after a scandal that evolved into a lawsuit against Usher, so naturally, rumors have popped up.
Here are six possible reasons why Usher and Grace have ended their relationship:
1. They have been living separately for months.
A source told Hollywood Life that Usher and Grace have not been living together for a while now.
“Usher and Grace have been living separate lives for a long time,” the source said. “He works a lot and travels a ton too so they had been struggling with intimacy issues for years.”
2. Three people accused Usher of giving them herpes.
Two women and a man publicly accused The Voice coach of infecting them with the sexually-transmitted disease last August, TMZreports.
The women claimed to have contracted the STD via vaginal sex with Usher and the man via oral sex.
They filed a lawsuit against Usher Aug. 7 for failing to tell them he had herpes before they got physical. All three said they had sex with the star "because Raymond [Usher] was a revered celebrity in their eyes who they believed could be loved and trusted."
Usher and Grace threw in the towel just months after the scandal. A source told Hollywood Life that the couple had been struggling before the lawsuit.
“But the herpes lawsuit was the nail in the coffin,” the insider said. “The suit drove them further apart and created a divide between them that was impossible to fix. After the suit, all trust and intimacy was gone making it impossible to recover, they could not go on as a married couple.”
3. Rumors circulated that Usher cheated.
Obviously, if Usher did give those three people herpes he would have had to cheat on his wife.
The lawsuit was filed last year, after the “Yeah!” singer had been married to Grace for over a year.
The source said the Usher’s “wandering eye” was an underlying issue for the husband and wife over the years.
“There were major trust issues between the two and there were lots of times that Grace expected he has a wandering eye,” the source explained. “She couldn’t ever get over her thoughts of him being with other people and that drained both of them and more issues then arose till they decided to break up. Trust issues were at the forefront all along.”
4. Usher put their house up for sale before the couple announced they were parting ways.
Before Usher and Grace announced their separation, Usher had already put their Sunset strip home up for sale, TMZ reports. It was posted for sale two weeks prior to their announcement.
The house is a whopping 4,261 square feet between five bedrooms and six bathrooms and is listed for $4.2 million.
They are also selling their home in Georgia for $1.699 million.
5. They both have kids from previous relationships, but none together.
Usher has two children, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely, with his ex-wife, Tameka Foster. Usher and Foster divorced just before he began dating Grace in 2009.
Grace has two kids of her own from prior relationships as well, a daughter named Leaf and a son named Raiden.
6. Grace is Usher’s manager.
This might get a bit tricky if they decide to finalize their split with a divorce.
E! Online writes that Grace’s official business title is "the management, branding and marketing force behind musical powerhouse, Usher Raymond IV."
"I have an incredible partner and manager," Usher previously told Billboard. "She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career."
