Vandals scribble 'Serial Rapist' on Bill Cosby's Walk of Fame star

Bill Cosby‘s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame got a makeover on Tuesday as the disgraced comedian’s name was replaced with two words: “Serial Rapist.”

The Los Angeles Police Department confirms to Yahoo Entertainment that officers responded to a report of vandalism around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The star was cleaned off — it appears the miscreants used black ink — and a report was taken. The incident is currently under investigation.

The Cosby Show star has been accused of sexually assaulting 60 women. In April, the actor was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault during a retrial for his January 2004 sexual assault of Andrea Constand. He could spend the rest of his life in prison. Cosby’s sentencing on those charges is set to take place after a two-day hearing on Sept. 24 and 25.

Between Cosby and Donald Trump, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has had its hands full with vandalization incidents at the L.A. landmark — but there is no sign the group is ready to amend its policy against removing stars.

After a petition circulated in 2014 demanding Cosby’s star be removed, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce released a statement saying it would not remove stars of Walk of Famers because of alleged misconduct.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk,” Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, said in 2015.

They doubled down on that statement in the wake of the Weinstein scandal, with people calling for the removal of stars recognizing Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner, and Trump: “Stars are awarded for professional achievement to the world of entertainment and contributions to the community. A celebrity’s politics, philosophy, irrational behavior, or outrageous remarks have never been cause to remove a Walk of Fame star.”

Cosby, 81, received a star in 1977, and this instance marked the third time it has been defaced.
