Why ‘Star Trek’ fans are loving and hating the new ‘Discovery’ TV show

The highly anticipated new Star Trek: Discovery series is boldly going where no Trek series has gone before.

In the first episode, we were introduced to the USS Shenzhou’s Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her first officer, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). We’re happy to report that based on Twitter reactions, fans are loving the fact that Discovery is being led by two kick-ass women from underrepresented demographics.

While the majority of the responses were positive, some fans were upset about the fact that to continue watching the show, they’ll have to download CBS’s All Access app, where the series intends to live long and prosper. This Star Trek series is also making history as the first to run solely on a digital platform.

However, it is worth noting that in this new era, cord-cutting is increasingly popular, and we’re fairly confident that those who truly love the series will end up giving in and paying for a $5.99-month subscription. Especially if they’re klinging to that cliffhanger, like we are!

Star Trek: Discovery is now streaming on CBS All Access.
