Sarah Hyland works out naked in front of a mirror to 'hate' herself and 'work harder'

Sarah Hyland is not playing around with working out.

The Modern Family star, 27, revealed her extreme workout style, which is to exercise nude in front of a mirror, on Instagram. The actress says it gives her extra motivation and thinks everyone, or at least her 5.8 million followers, should try it.

“So I have a break from filming right now before some other things, and does anybody else like working out naked in front of mirrors so you hate yourself and work harder?” she said in a story on the social media platform. Soon after, she posted another video, seemingly post-workout, urging watchers to give it a try. “Seriously. I suggest you all do it. Because you’re in front of the mirror and you’re like, ‘Must have Dua Lipa abs!'”

Regardless of her preferred workout style, the actress is a food lover. Look no further than her Instagram stories — about half of which are her trying to persuade her reality-star boyfriend Wells Adams to go to an In-N-Out Burger recently after a Dave Matthews Band concert. (Long story short: They brought salads to the show — and apparently a lot of wine — but she was craving “PROTEIN” on their ride home.) We kind of think this post sums up her feelings about exercise/food very well:

Hyland, who has kidney dysplasia and underwent a kidney transplant in 2012, has also been candid about her struggle to maintain her weight. Through the years, she’s clapped back at critics saying she’s too thin and has denied she’s anorexic. In May 2017, she posted an eight-page letter on Twitter to her critics, writing, “‘Eat a burger,’ ‘your head is bigger than your body and that’s disgusting,’ And you’re right! … No one’s head should be bigger than their body but considering I’ve basically been on bed rest for the past few months, I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass. My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like. So I strive to be as healthy as possible, as everyone should… I am not a fan of ‘being skinny.’” In the post, she also wrote, “It’s never fun to look in the mirror and see your hard work at the gym fade away or have your legs be the size of one’s arms.”

Hyland showed off her bikini body over the summer:

In March, she was hospitalized for an undisclosed health issue. Three months later, she got the green light to exercise again — and was thrilled. “Finally have clearance to workout,” she wrote on Instagram. “Abs here I come. It’s been a while. Strong > skinny.”

Clearly, she’s hardcore about those workouts — mirrors and all.
