Gretchen Wilson, the country singer best known for her hit song “Redneck Woman,” is breaking her silence about her Aug. 21 arrest.

Wilson, 45, was on a flight to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., when she caused a “minor disturbance” on the plane. Connecticut State Troopers met her near the plane when she landed. “While interviewing the accused on the jetway, she became belligerent toward officers and caused a ‘disturbance,'” the arrest report stated. She was “ultimately taken into custody for Breach of Peace.”

“I’m saddened by the whole thing,” Wilson said in an interview with the country music website Taste of Country. But the singer said she isn’t ashamed. “I don’t know that I can say that I’m [embarrassed], I’m embarrassed that the situation got to where it was, but no, not personally,” she explained. Wilson says she’s mostly frustrated by the media coverage surrounding the incident. “I’m reading all of these headlines and am like, ‘Oh gosh, it’s so wrong. It’s all so wrong!'”

Following the incident, Wilson tweeted to her fans that the “the truth shall prevail.”

Wilson says was on a group text with her mom and daughter, who were waiting to hear that she had landed, but were confused when they didn’t hear from her until an hour later. “I got a bunch ‘WTFs’ and question marks,” she told Taste of Country.

“Talk about a rough landing,” she joked. But she understands the severity of the situation. “It’s not funny. It’s not a funny situation at all,” Wilson said.

“It’s been really frustrating for me not to be able to talk about it, because people who know me know that I just wanna get it straight,” she told Taste of Country. Unfortunately, she said, she can’t make those corrections because it’s still an “open case.” But she added that she’s confident it will get straightened out.

According to Taste of Country, Wilson did an interview on the radio show Big D & Bubba in which she revealed that this was the first time she has been arrested and charged with a crime.

While Wilson is still dealing with the legal ramifications, she’s back to making music. In fact, she’s already writing a song about this very incident. “Yeah, I kinda started working on one last night. It might be a hit.”
