John Legend makes history, becoming first black man to reach EGOT status

John Legend’s just added some new hardware to his trophy case: an Emmy to accompany his Oscar, Tony, and 10 Grammys. The singer struck gold at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, where “Jesus Christ Superstar, Live in Concert” was named Outstanding Variety Special. Legend and fellow producers Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber all received Emmys for their work, propelling all three to EGOT status, and making Legend the first black man ever to hold the honor.
