  • Police defend cop after video of confrontation with black man goes viral

DALLAS -- A police supervisor in Texas is defending the actions of a constable who was in a confrontation last week with a young man. Millions have seen the cellphone video, and some believe the constable crossed the line. The cellphone video captures a moment when a Harris County constable stopped 20-year-old Marlin Gipson as he and his brothers were passing out business cards for his lawn service last week. "I'm kind of busy, I'm trying to make money," Gipson can be heard saying in the video. The officer then says, "Yeah, but when I saw you, you were going from door to door." Gipson did not have an ID card on him when asked by the officer. Then, the situation got tense, after Gipson asked the

  • Malignaggi not wow’d by McGregor’s power: It’s not ‘Oh my God’ power

As Conor McGregor gears up to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the biggest fight of his life on Aug. 26, the media continues to hype the Irishman’s knockout power as the best tool he has at his disposal. The UFC’s first ever simultaneous two-division champion has won almost all of his fights via KO/TKO, finishing most opponents with his vaunted left hand, but boxing sensation Pauli Malignaggi, who has been brought in to spar with McGregor in the lead-up to the Mayweather bout, says ‘The Notorious’s’ power is overrated. “This is what I call ‘Oh my God’ power, even in sparring, and you’re like ‘Oh my God,’ like wow, this guy really hits hard. Although Malignaggi wasn’t wow’d by McGregor’s power, the former two-time boxing world champ believes it’s ‘good enough’ to pose problems for Mayweather.

  • Walmart cashier’s act of kindness leaves foster parent in tears

It was late on a Friday night and Nicholas Tate was nearing the end of his shift at Walmart when the line at his checkout counter started grow. The 20-year-old cashier from Newcastle, Oklahoma, patiently waited as each customer placed their items on the conveyor belt. A woman surrounded by three children apologized as she stepped up to the counter. "Is it one of those days?" Tate asked, smiling as kids bounced around behind her. The woman explained she was fostering a baby and had to use WIC, part of a federal program that provides assistance for low-income families with children, to pay for some of the items. She had set up WIC earlier that day, and had never used it before. "She had a good

  • We Used To Hate This ’90s Dress Trend But Now We Love It

The slip dress may be the biggest dress revival to come out of the ’90s (for good reason, as it’s incredibly versatile and super-easy to wear), but another style from the earlier part of the decade is having a moment: button-front dresses. You know what we’re talking about. You probably wore one in a family photo or teamed one with combat boots during your grunge phase. It was likely a floral print, and you may or may not cringe at the sight of it now. Same. But new versions of the dress are flooding the market, making us see the once-outdated style with fresh, enthusiastic eyes. Cut in a range of silhouettes that include flippy minis and maxi lengths to precious sleeves and simple tank straps, the only really nostalgic part of this look is the button detailing. Go ahead and throw it on with a fuss-free sandal and cute straw bag and you’ll be ready to roll (just don’t pair it with Dr. Martens and a straw hat à la Blossom).
