On April 13, the Monday after what was supposed to be the final round of the 2020 Masters, until it was postponed to November because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club finalized a $26 million purchase of a nearby shopping center, making it the single-largest financial acquisition in ANGC history, according to a report on Thursday by the Augusta Chronicle. The 15-acre National Hills Shopping Center is across the street from the northwest corner of the Augusta National property, just a couple hundred yards from the main entrance on Magnolia Lane. ANGC also bought on March 27 five former home tracts on the club’s southwest side for $2.2 million.

Saying the evidence shows three white suspects "chased, hunted down and ultimately executed" Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, a prosecutor on Thursday laid out in detail how the 25-year-old black victim tried to run for his life before he was struck by a vehicle and called a racial slur by one of the suspects after being gunned down. The preliminary hearing for Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan unfolded with graphic details describing the last moments of Arbery's life. At one point, testimony from the lead investigator in the case became so graphic Arbery's mother, Wanda Cooper, walked out of the courtroom.
