VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) on Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $63.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based company said it had a loss of 42 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 1 cent per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 3 cents per share.

The silver mining company posted revenue of $173.4 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $10.3 million, or 7 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $784.5 million.

Pan American Silver shares have climbed almost 1 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $14.70, a fall of nearly 7 percent in the last 12 months.
