VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $33.8 million.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based company said it had profit of 19 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 5 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 2 cents per share.

The silver mining company posted revenue of $232.6 million in the period.

Pan American Silver shares have fallen 18% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $12.03, a drop of 27% in the last 12 months.
