Hurricane Florence: Couple Forced to Postpone Wedding Treated to Special 'Dry Run' Ceremony
One North Carolina couple’s dream wedding is gone with the wind, thanks to Hurricane Florence — but Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian helped salvage some of the pomp and circumstance.
For Sierra Fairley and her fiancé, Brian Kurian of Wilmington, canceling their wedding was a heartbreaking decision.
“I’m devastated,” she told Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian. “I feel like I lost everything.”
The 26-year-old teacher had put so much work into planning her wedding.
Kurian took on two jobs to pay for wedding expenses.
"I was more than willing to say ‘I do’ in the hurricane," he said. "If I get blown away, at least I tried."
But she vetoed that idea.
The couple finally broke the news to their 115 guests with a Facebook message, saying they had no choice but to postpone the nuptials.
“We wanted everyone to be safe and we will have a better wedding on another day,” she said.
Fabian opted to help "marry" the couple ahead of the date they originally planned and before Hurricane Florence could bring chaos to their city, serving as officiant for a "dry run" of the ceremony — and Inside Edition's cameras were there to capture the moment.
Fairley's father walked her down the aisle and Inside Edition producer Alycia Powers assisted with the wedding rings.
The moment was filled with joy and laughter, something the couple needed on an otherwise difficult day.
Fairley and Kurian have not yet rescheduled and are working with their vendors to try and get some of their money back.
