A number of HBO social media accounts were hacked late on Wednesday adding to the pile of security issues the company has had following leaks of scripts around key shows like "Game of Thrones."

At around 11 p.m. ET, the @hbonow Twitter account was taken over by a group called OurMine. The same hackers also compromised the main @HBO and @GameOfThrones accounts.

The "Game of Thrones" Facebook page was also compromised with the hackercs posting about trying to get the hashtag #HBOHacked trending.

OurMine has been responsible for some high-profile hacks of social media accounts including several belonging to Facebook (FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google (GOOGL) CEO Sundar Pichai.

In its posts, OurMine asked HBO to contact it. The posts were deleted after HBO regained control of the account, but users on social media posted screenshots.

HBO was unavailable for comment when contacted by CNBC.

The social media hack comes after weeks of security issues for the firm. Scripts from shows such as "Game of Thrones" were leaked online earlier this month. The hackers demanded money worth six months of their salary, claiming they make $12 million to $15 million from stealing intellectual property and blackmailing companies.

HBO offered $250,000 as a "bounty payment" to the hackers, according to an email obtained by CNBC , but a source familiar with the situation said it was just a "delay tactic."
