Anna Kendrick Talks About Playing Squirrel Girl, Would Be Perfect Fit

In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Anna Kendrick was sharing her joy over the success Ryan Reynolds has had with Deadpool when she was asked if she would be interested in signing up for some superhero adventures.

Kendrick said, “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!” That’s kind of … tepid … enthusiasm for the role, but Anna, if we can talk right now, like for real, you’re perfect for this role, and Hollywood should totally get on board with this.

Created in 1992 by Steve Ditko and Will Murray, Squirrel Girl (real name: Doreen Green), has super strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. Oh, and she can also talk to squirrels, as she does to her sidekick, Monkey Joe.

What really sets Squirrel Girl apart from the pack is her delightfully quirky personality. She’s basically a fangirl with superpowers. Her favorite hero is Iron Man, and in the past she has attempted to become his sidekick.

Here’s the thing, though – she’s a fan of the A-list heroes, but in some ways she’s better at their job. She saved Earth from Galactus, the planet-eating supervillain. Her squirrels helped take out Dr. Doom. Heck, she even defeated Thanos, the villain all of Marvel’s cinematic universe is teaming up against in the upcoming Avengers sequels.

Anna Kendrick could totally pull of the incorrigible pluckiness of the character, and she would help add some gender balance to the Marvel mix. Basically, when you have a talented actress saying she’d be into playing a great character, you’ve got to do it. I mean, look at this tweet from BossLogic. It’s perfect.

But let’s think: Are there any other actresses who’d be better for the part? I could see Maisie Williams or Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones fame pulling it off. Chloë Grace Moretz makes sense and has superhero experience. But … really, Anna Kendrick should be the one.
