Watch: Bill Gates Defeated by 23-Year-Old Chess Champion in Under Two Minutes

Bill Gates is the second-richest person in the world right now, according to Forbes. It’s good that he’s got a bit of a nest egg to fall back on, because if the above video is any indication, he won’t be making it in the chess world in the near future, as the former Microsoft CEO was defeated in under two minutes by a reigning chess champion.

To be fair, the match was kind of stacked. The young man on the other side of the table is Magnus Carlsen, who joined the elite ranks of chess grandmasters at 13 years old — making him the second-youngest person to achieve that rank at the time (he’s since been bumped to third).

Carlsen has continued cracking skulls at the game, snagging the worldwide top spot at the 2013 World Chess Championship in India, back in November. The above match runs one minute and nine seconds, before Gates mumbles, “That was quick,” with a big smile across his face. He’d later suggest that the match had a “predetermined outcome.”

The game occurred on a Norwegian talk show hosted by Fredrik Skavlan. Gates has really been making the rounds lately, promoting his Annual Letter for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In the 2014 edition, the former Microsoft chief notes that, “By almost any measure, the world is better than it has ever been,” and that “by 2035, there will be almost no poor countries left in the world.” Checkmate.

In the meantime, here’s a link to a Microsoft chess game, in case you needs to brush up on your skills.
