NYC Apple Store's $450K Window Shattered by Snow Blower

You may have heard that record-shattering snow is ripping through the Northeast. An Apple Store in New York City just felt it firsthand.

The company’s world famous glass-encapsulated Fifth Avenue store was reportedly struck by a snowblower Tuesday evening, cracking one of its 15 giant window panes, according to Apple InsiderDetails on how the accident happened are unclear, but the fix will no doubt be costly.

Apple news site 9to5Mac reports that each panel runs about 450,000 big ones. The store was renovated in 2011, replacing the 90 small glass panes originally making up the store’s above-ground cube with the 32-foot sheets that are now in place, a $6.7 million makeover.

Here are some snaps of the damage that went down on Tuesday:

We’re all of course wondering if this kind of thing is covered under AppleCare. Then again, the company’s $140 billion or so cash on hand should be enough to cover it.
