How to Stream the Super Bowl for Free on Your Computer or Tablet

It’s about time TV networks started streaming major American cultural events online. This year, Fox is answering our prayers and airing the Super Bowl between the Broncos and the Seahawks live for anyone with a computer or iPad, for no charge at all, through its new Fox Sports Go app and website. (If you don’t care about screen size, or dropping a few dollars, you can also get updates for five bucks on your smartphone.)

Sure, Fox’s gift of free Super Bowl streaming this Sunday is a ploy to get you to download and use Fox Sports Go. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take full advantage of it. Think of it like the sample stands at Costco: If they offer, you take it.

So here’s how to do it:

If you plan on watching from your laptop:

Go to FoxSportsGo.com. Programming on the site will be available for free from 12 a.m. Feb. 2 to 3 a.m. Feb. 3, Eastern time.

If you plan on watching from your iPad:

1. Download the Fox Sports Go iPad app in the Apple Store for free.

2. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet and that your connection is strong. You probably want to use WiFi so that you don’t eat up all your data.

3. Open the app and start watching burly dudes tackling one another.

If you plan on watching from your smartphone:

You’ll have to download the NFL Mobile app — available on BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Phone and Android — and pay a $5 subscription fee. Unfortunately, the free version of this app includes only the updated score and highlights, and the Fox Sports Go app won’t stream on smartphones because of phone company agreements.

If you have cable:

Just watch it on Fox on Feb. 2, silly! Kickoff is scheduled for 6:25 p.m. Eastern, and Fox’s pregame will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern. My miniature dream boyfriend, Bruno Mars, will be playing the halftime show alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
