Rick Perry through the years

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, 65, is running for president for the second time, after a disappointing showing in 2012. Considered a strong contender early on, he dropped out after an embarrassing memory lapse during a televised debate. A former state legislator and agriculture commissioner, he was elected lieutenant governor on a ticket with George W. Bush in 1998, and became governor two years later when Bush was elected president. Perry was reelected to three more full terms, making him the longest-serving Texas governor ever. He was indicted last year and still faces abuse-of-office charges related to a dispute with a county district attorney. (Jerry Adler/Yahoo News)
