John Kasich through the years

John Kasich, 63, the governor of Ohio, is a candidate for the Republican nomination for president. Kasich was first elected to Congress in 1982 and served nine terms, including a stint as chairman of the House Budget Committee, during which he joined with President Bill Clinton in bringing the budget into surplus for the first (and last) time in years. He ran for president in 2000 but dropped out early, became a broadcaster and commentator on Fox before winning the Ohio statehouse in 2010, and a second term in 2014. He is a strong fiscal and social conservative but angered some Tea Party activists by accepting federal funding to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. (Jerry Adler/Yahoo News)
