See the ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’ Boys All Grown Up

It’s been eight years since the 56-second YouTube hit “Charlie Bit My Finger” made the Interwebs laugh, say “awwww,” then watch it all over again. Since then, the playful moment of mischief between two adorable brothers named Charlie and Harry has attracted more than 816 million views. It’s also inspired countless parodies, including one featuring Meryl Streep and the Hemsworth brothers that appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Charlie and Harry, now 9 and 11 and still darling, recently sat down with a BBC reporter to discuss their Internet fame. Harry says the video still makes him laugh. Charlie, however, thinks it’s “a bit odd that loads of people have watched it.” (Ouch, Charlie, that really hurts!)

The boys also share the story of how they ended up on YouTube in the first place. It turns out, it was purely a matter of convenience: Their father Howard, who shot the video, initially tried sending the clip to friends via email, but the file was too large. “My dad put it on YouTube so my godfather could see it in America,” explains Charlie.

The boys’ parents have reportedly made thousands of pounds from the video through advertising and sponsorship deals. “We’ve always viewed the YouTube thing as a hobby,” says their dad, “and it brings in a bit of extra money, so we’re comfortable.” Evidently, it pays to be cute!
