A man died Friday night in the Clock Tower Acres neighborhood after he drove his Jeep Liberty into a building and caught on fire, Milwaukee police say.

Police believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. The crash happened on the 1800 block of South Second Street shortly after 8:45 p.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Will Kowalski said the fire department waited for We Energies to "secure the gas" so the department could declare the scene safe.

Police said there were no other occupants inside the vehicle.
