Colorado State football coach Steve Addazio was ejected late in the second quarter Saturday night as the Rams were being blown out by Nevada.

The second-year CSU head coach picked up two unsportsmanlike penalties in a matter of minutes, the second leading to an automatic ejection.

CSU was trailing Nevada 28-0 in the second quarter when quarterback Todd Centeio completed a pass to Trey McBride into the Nevada red zone. The play was called back for an ineligible man downfield and Addazio picked up his first unsportsmanlike flag after that penalty.

The Rams picked up a first down on the next play, but it was called back for holding. Centeio fumbled after being sacked on the next play.

During a commercial break following the turnover, Addazio was flagged for his second unsportsmanlike, which led to an automatic ejection.

He was ejected with 4:41 left in the first half and CSU down 28-0.

“It was gut-wrenching not to be able to be out there in the second half of that game," Addazio said after the game.

“There was a play we had overturned that I disagreed with. That cost me a flag...

“The play was blown dead before the ball was recovered and I asked the referee ‘the play was blown dead, how do we know who recovered it? Everybody stopped.’ That was what it was. To tell you the truth I was pretty calm at that point and there was no bad language or anything. All I said to them was ‘guys, we’ve got to do better.’ That got me another flag. That is what it is. If I kept my mouth shut and didn’t say anything, obviously I wouldn’t have been in that situation, so that’s my responsibility.”

Opinion: How can you sell another year of Steve Addazio-led CSU football?

The two unsportsmanlike penalties leading to an ejection rule went into place in 2016. Addazio is the second coach to be ejected for it, following Scot Loeffler of Bowling Green earlier this season.

Senior associate head coach and running backs coach Brian White led the team from the sideline earlier this season when Addazio was in the press box due to an injury and ran the team in Addazio's absence.

CSU lost to Nevada, 52-10.
