Woman dies after car fire in Ross County

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH) – One person is dead and another is in critical condition after the pair was traveling in a car that caught fire on Sunday.

Just before 3 p.m., a 2009 Honda Element was traveling southbound on State Route 207 near Cattail Road in Ross County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The passenger side of the vehicle became engulfed in flames, resulting in the driver coming to a stop in the roadway. The driver was able to exit the car, but a passenger was trapped inside.

A bystander noticed the car fire and helped the passenger get out of the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger of the Honda sustained life-threatening injuries and were flown to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The bystander was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and has since been released, according to the OSHP.

Man involved in murder of local religious leader receives sentence

The passenger, Linda Stinson, 82, died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained in critical condition as of Tuesday.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal was contacted to look into the fire, the OSHP said. The roadway was closed for about two hours during the investigation.
