Video: Ted Cruz awkwardly cut off at faith conference
During his address to the Faith & Freedom Coalition conference Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was awkwardly cut off as an emcee announced the next speaker, who walked out onstage as music played the former presidential candidate off.
Cruz was on a particularly impassioned run in his speech when he was interrupted.
“So what I want to say to the men and women here is two things,” Cruz said. “Number one, thank you thank you, thank you. Thank you for your prayers, thank you for your passion, thank you for your time, thank you for your energy, thank you for speaking out and working to retake our nation.”
As he was reveling in the ensuing applause, the next speaker was announced. Ignoring Cruz’ presence onstage entirely, she walked to the podium to upbeat music, as the Texas lawmaker turned to the audience with his arms outstretched incredulously before taking the hint and leaving the stage.

President Trump, a former bitter rival of Cruz who memorably branded him with the moniker “Lyin’ Ted,” is set to speak at the same venue later in the day.
It’s not the first time a Cruz speech has been upstaged by Trump’s impending arrival.
During the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Cruz held an outdoor rally that was interrupted by Trump’s plane passing overhead.
“In an amazing campaign field of 17 talented, dynamic candidates, we beat 15 of those candidates,” Cruz told the crowd as Trump’s plane descended nearby to boos.
“All right, that was pretty well-orchestrated,” Cruz joked. “Did you email them to fly the plane right when I said that?”
