Student 'transported to hospital' after collapsing during basketball game at Arrowhead High School

A medical emergency involving a student halted a boys basketball game at Arrowhead Union High School Friday night, according to sports journalists.

It's unclear what happened to the male student. Waukesha Freeman correspondent Rob Reischel said in a tweet that physical educator teacher Jeff Stauss "raced" an automated external defibrillator to help "rescue" the student. But it is unclear if the defibrillator was used.

In a statement, superintendent Laura Myrah didn't confirm the use of a defibrillator but said the student collapsed in the bleachers during the game and was "provided medical assistance at the scene and was transported to the hospital."

"We hope this young man is doing well now, as well as all those who witnessed the frightening event," Myrah said.

Mark Miller at Wisconsin Sports Network said in a tweet that the game between Arrowhead and Catholic Memorial resumed Saturday morning. Arrowhead won the game, 77-72, clinching the Classic Eight Conference title outright with its victory.

Pictures from Miller show that EMTs from the Hartland Fire Department responded to the incident. Hartland Fire Chief Dave Jambretz confirmed Monday his department reported to the high school on Friday night and transported one person to the hospital. Jambretz did not have an age for the person, nor was he able to confirm the use of a defibrillator.

"We didn't use (a defibrillator), and we could not confirm that it was used," Jambretz said.
