Smoke Clouds Streets During Clashes Between Police and Yellow Vest Demonstrators

Yellow Vest protesters and police officers clashed in Paris on December 8, as one of the biggest demonstrations of the movement took place in the French capital.

Some 8,000 police officers were deployed in Paris ahead of the march, which started at the Arc de Triomphe, went down the Champs-Elysees and onto Place de la Concorde.

French police called for businesses in the Champs-Elysees and Bastille areas to close on Saturday, while Paris landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre would also shut their doors.

On Friday windows and doors were boarded up at stores and businesses in central Paris as the French capital prepared for the following day’s protests.

Additional demonstrations happened across the country as part of “Act IV”, the name given to the fourth weekend of the protests. Credit: Parham Shahrjerdi via Storyful
