1 injured in fire in storage yard

One person was injured late Sunday morning when a boat being worked on at a commercial site in west Ventura caught fire.

The incident was first reported at 11:48 a.m. near the intersection of North Ventura Avenue and Comstock Drive, according to initial fire reports.

When fire crews arrived, they found the blaze growing on the boat, a passenger van and a storage container, according to Ventura Fire. A man was seriously injured from the fire and was taken to the hospital, fire officials said.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in the storage yard before it spread. The fire started in the boat, and the cause of the fire was determined as accidental, fire officials said.

Police Cmdr. Edward Caliento said officers were the first to arrive on scene and helped with traffic in the area.

The boat had apparently been under a tent structure when the blaze started.
