Man killed, one injured in North Bend crash

A Fairfield man was killed and an 88-year-old North Bend woman was seriously injured in a crash on U.S. Route 50 Saturday.

The two-car collision happened at 5:46 p.m. Saturday near the 300 block of Three Rivers Parkway, according to a release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The release said Mary Hamant, 88, exited a slight curve and crossed the center line in her 2014 Ford Escape into oncoming traffic. A westbound 2004 Nissan Titan operated by Rodney Herzner, 54, was hit head-on.

The Miami Township Fire Department took Hamant and Herzner to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The sheriff's office said Herzner was pronounced dead at the hospital. Hamant sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Call the traffic safety unit at 513-825-1500 if you have information about the crash.
