At least 20 dead after boat collision in Peru's Amazon

The boats collided on the Huallaga River near the Peruvian town of Yurimaguas, in Loreto, when a boat full of passengers crashed into a freight barge amid dense mist at dawn, reported local media.

Video footage showed rescuers carried bodies of victims as survivors and relatives cried on the river bank.

The passengers were returning to Yurimaguas city after participating in a vigil in a secluded hamlet in the jungle known as Santa Maria.
