LA Helicopter Crews Navigate Through Smoke to Save Homes From Skirball Fire
Helicopter crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department had to fly through thick smoke in an attempt to save homes from the Skirball Fire on Wednesday, December 6. The fire started Wednesday morning near the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Times reported the fire had destroyed between four to six homes and was continuing to grow, fueled by Santa Ana winds. The fire had grown to 150 acres by Wednesday afternoon.
On December 5, a state of emergency was issued by California Governor Jerry Brown due to the Rye and Creek fires burning in Ventura County. Across southern California, roughly 180 structures have reportedly been destroyed since the Thomas, Creek, Rye and Skirball fires have started.
