Homes burned in fire near Point Mugu

Seven residential units were destroyed Tuesday in a fire at a mobile home park outside Oxnard, displacing five adults, Ventura County fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 11:45 a.m. at the Naval Air Mobile Home Court at 4456 Naval Air Road. The property is on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway as it cuts through farmland near the north boundary of Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu.

Firefighters had stopped the blaze by 1:19 p.m., but the affected units were all declared total losses, fire officials said. The park has just under 50 units, according to one of the residents.

Besides four mobile homes, other destroyed units included a duplex and a fifth-wheel recreational vehicle, county Fire Capt. Brian McGrath said.

There don't appear to be any injuries related to the fire and Red Cross workers are assisting the residents who were displaced, said firefighter Andy VanSciver, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department.

VanSciver said he didn't know how the fire started. The cause is under investigation.

The park owner could not be reached Tuesday.
