Google Doodle goes dark in honor of President George H.W. Bush's funeral

Google is a pro at dazzling users with colorful and inventive illustrations and animations — known as Google Doodles — honoring various anniversaries and significant figures both past and present.

But the Google homepage’s much more muted look on Wednesday was for a special reason: to honor the national day of mourning in recognition of former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral. The 41st president died on Nov. 30 at age 94.

In tribute to Bush’s memorial and legacy, the site featured a simple, somber look with its logo in a dark gray. Hover over the logo, and a note about the national day of mourning appears, while a link takes users to search results about the late statesman.

Google has been praised for paying its respects to Bush.
