Fast-Moving Brush Fire Destroys Several Vehicles in Upstate New York

Several fire and police departments responded on March 9 as a brush fire spread over Breakneck Ridge, a popular hiking area north of New York City, located close to the Hudson Valley towns of Cold Spring, Fishkill, Cornwall, and Beacon.

The Fishkill Police Department reported several vehicles were destroyed by the fire. Hikers on the mountain came down safely, police said.

Emergency management officials in Cornwall said winds were driving the spread of the blaze.
