Baltimore County Police identify 15-year-old boy who drowned in Towson pool

Baltimore County Police on Tuesday identified the teen who drowned in a Towson pool as 15-year-old Jayden Mejia.

Mejia was pronounced dead by Monday evening, police said. Police released his name on Twitter on Monday night but later deleted the post. They did not comment on the deleted tweet late Monday evening other than to say it was accurate.

The teen was found around 9:35 p.m. in a pool at Merritt Clubs Towson at the 8700 block of Mylander Lane on Saturday and was taken to a hospital, police said. Trae Corbin, a police spokesperson, said Sunday that officers received a call for a potential drowning and that it “does not appear this incident took place during the operational hours of the pool.”

Donyel Cerceo, marketing director of Merritt Clubs, said the incident was a trespassing event at the Towson club’s outdoor pool after hours, which resulted in a “tragic loss of life.”
