The Atlanta Falcons roster entering training camp currently sits at 88 members, two shy of the 90-man limit. As the season progresses a few among the final 53-man roster will easily be considered underrated, performing exceptionally well but not getting the attention or credit they’re due. However, who among them is the Falcons’ most overrated?

Pete Prisco, of CBS, recently compiled his list of the most overrated players entering the 2016 season. The Falcons player Prisco decided upon is not the most overrated in the NFL, that title assigned to Kam Chancellor; he hasn’t even played a game yet for Atlanta. Prisco’s pick for the Falcons, Mohamed Sanu.

Prisco’s reasoning behind the selection, “The Falcons paid him a lot of money, but is he really anything more than a reliable second receiver? He has 152 catches in four seasons and just 11 touchdown catches. He’s getting a lot of money for a guy who is just OK.”

If Sanu can return to his 2014 form, a season in which he was more utilized, then Atlanta fans will not be worried about the contract but only enjoying the on-field results of a more potent offense. Sanu will give quarterback Matt Ryan a threat opposite Julio Jones and the improved offensive line should help the passing attack take advantage. In fact, Sanu offers multiple opportunities for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to open up the playbook.

For 2016, Sanu will be the 57th highest paid receiver in the NFL and third highest in Atlanta. Set to earn $15.9 million, Jones tops both the league and Falcons while Devin Hester is second at $3.8 million.

Yes, Sanu’s contract will make him a lot of money in Atlanta but “a reliable second receiver” is just what Coach Dan Quinn and General Manager Thomas Dimitroff were looking to sign.
