'The Martian' Clip: Watch Science Fly in the Face of Matt Damon (Literally)
Here’s an exclusive peek at an early scene from Ridley Scott’s forthcoming space drama The Martian revealing the moment when it all goes terribly awry for astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) on the red planet.
The Ares 3 crew, led by Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), is just days into its Mars mission when a powerful storm heads their way. Lewis makes the call: They have to abort the mission, a painful decision for someone in charge of an expensive, months-long expedition that took years to plan. Watney has his reservations but follows protocol. Then — boom! — he’s hit as the group races to negotiate wind-whipped Mars rubble during the evacuation.

The Martian, with an ensemble cast including Damon, Chastain, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, Jeff Daniels, and Donald Glover, launches into theaters Oct. 2.
