Ryan Reynolds is the king of joking, and sometimes trolling, with his fans on social media, and he's struck again.

The newest Mortal Kombat live-action movie has just been released to surprisingly positive reviews, but one thing that was missing from it was the character Johnny Cage. In the games, he's an actor and fighter, and a favorite among players. It seems like a perfect role for the Deadpool star.

Of course, Reynolds has now jumped on the bandwagon with his usual humor, popping his face onto Johnny Cage's character model from one of the games and posting it as a gif on Twitter.

He didn't just do it for a laugh, but to promote his mobile network (yes, he really does own one!) that has won an award in the US.

"What do I do with casting rumors and wireless competitors upset that @usnews just named @Mintmobile 2021's best cell phone plan?" he wrote. "Finish 'em!!"

Joking aside, we could easily see Reynolds being cast as Johnny Cage. He's got a relationship with Warner Bros after Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, there are plenty of tweets calling for his casting, he does kind of look like the character, and Johnny was previously voiced by a celebrity (Joel McHale) in an animated movie.

Mortal Kombat is available to stream on HBO Max and in cinemas in the US. It does not have a UK release date currently.
