Former White House communications director Hope Hicks boarded Air Force One with President Trump on Saturday, en route from New Jersey to a campaign rally in Ohio. There are a number of political reasons that this was noteworthy, including the fact that she is considered an important witness in the investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia. But on a less serious note, many observed something else interesting about Hicks’s appearance.

When the flight touched down at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, photographers captured Hicks descending the steps of the airplane in a sleeveless white midi dress and large, cat-eye sunglasses looking very much like Melania Trump. She also donned sky-high taupe heels and a Birkin-esq bag, both favorites of the first lady.

“Wow I never realized how much Hope Hicks looks like Melania until just now,” tweeted Christy Milas. “I kept seeing this picture on people’s timelines and I thought it was Melania until I saw someone say it was Hope Hicks.”

“Is it just me or does Hope Hicks look very much like @FLOTUS ??? Weird,” observed @barbcarpenter.

The first lady has favored very similar dresses at various public appearances, such as the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship last summer and a speech in March about the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

Before Hicks left her position in the White House, some had noticed the similarity of her fashion choices to Melania Trump’s. But the resemblance and timing of her appearance with the president was made even more interesting by Melania’s actions this weekend. On the heels of President Trump’s tweet denigrating LeBron James’s intelligence in a CNN interview, the first lady praised the NBA star.

“It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today,” Melania’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN in a statement. She also added that the first lady would be open to visiting the I Promise school that James recently opened in Akron, Ohio.

Twitter was rife with speculation that Melania’s statement was somehow related to the fact that her husband was traveling with Hicks.

On the other hand, maybe Hicks just needed a lift to Ohio and she likes wearing white in the heat of summer?
