In case you’ve forgotten the glory that was the early aughts, let me remind you of one thing: Ashley Tisdale was the unofficial queen of trends. Dresses over jeans? Wore it. Crimped and feathered hair? Lived it. Various tiny plastic necklaces, purses, earrings, and belts? Breathed it. So it’s no real surprise that Tisdale chopped and dyed her hair pink last night, because experimenting is in her nature. The only real surprise is how shockingly different she ended up looking.

Tisdale first revealed her hair change last night on Instagram, posting a photo of her new haircut (a blunt, angled bob) and hair color (a bright, peachy-pink). The caption on her photo? “The Voices In My Head made me do it”-a not-so-subtle nod to Tisdale’s new song of the same name.

Though her new hair probably looks like a simple cut and color, it was actually the creation of four different people: colorist Dom Forletta, who dyed her blonde hair pink; hair extensions expert Violet Teriti, who amped up Tisdale’s volume with some subtle extensions; hairstylist Buddy Porter, who transformed her choppy lob into a blunt, angled bob; and hairstylist Justine Marjan, who added waves and sleekness to the style.

So, you know, proof that the whole “it takes a village” thing is actually very, very real. Marjan posted a second photo of Tisdale’s hair later in the evening, this time with a side part and soft, brushed-out waves. “Who else stans for pink??? Look 2 today for Ashley Tisdale,” she wrote, adding that she used a Ghd Platinum + Styler to “get the perfect wave + texture in short hair.”

And, yes, clearly that is still Ashley Tisdale-I’m not saying she also got a face transplant and grew a third arm-but for someone who has had signature blonde hair for the better part of her entire life (or, more accurately, the better part of my memory), her new look is definitely a new one.

And honestly, I love it. I’ve never dyed my hair anything outside of its basic brunette, but now I have an intense itch go pink, too. So BRB-I need to find a four-person crew and live my best 2018 Tisdale life.
