Erickson: If GOP supports Trump, ‘I’m not a Republican anymore’

Donald Trump often boasts that he is expanding the base of the Republican Party.

But the GOP may be losing one member: Erick Erickson, conservative blogger and founder of the website the Resurgent.

“If the Republican Party wants to go in his direction, I guess I’m not a Republican anymore,” Erickson told Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric on Monday.

Erickson told Couric that he wouldn’t be able to stomach voting for Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “I find them both appalling… I think it’s going to be a pretty big loss for Donald Trump in November, and down-ballot devastation for Republicans.”

Erickson recently penned a piece stating that he’d like former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to run as a third-party candidate: “I can’t believe I’m even writing this. But seriously, Mitt Romney should run for President again and transcend party for the good of the country.”

But Erickson told Couric that he has not had any communication with Romney since he published the piece, and understands that Romney is not interested. Despite reports that former Trump foes like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) are falling in line behind the GOP nominee, Erickson still insists that the “Never Trump” movement is growing.

Couric asked Erickson what he’ll do on Election Day. “I’ll probably show up and just not vote on the presidential line,” he said.
