See Burt Reynolds as a grizzled version of himself in 'The Last Movie Star' (exclusive)
At 82, Burt Reynolds continues to work at an impressively steady rate, even if the lower-profile projects he’s cast in aren’t exactly burning up the cineplex.
The Last Movie Star, however, looks to be a particularly personal project for the veteran of films like Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit, and Boogie Nights. (Watch the exclusive trailer above.)
Reynolds plays Vic Edwards, an aging celebrity (the “No. 1 box-office star for five — no, six — years in a row”) who accepts an invitation to attend a film festival honoring his long career, only to show up and discover the event is barely even bush league. The festival takes place, for example, at a bar barely big enough to fit a red carpet.
Sure, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, and Clint Eastwood were all given the same honor. But Edwards is the “only one stupid enough to show up.”
Written and directed by Adam Rifkin, The Last Movie Star also features Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, Ellar Coltrane, Nikki Blonsky, and Chevy Chase. You can see it on DIRECTV starting Feb. 22 or in theaters on March 30.
