'RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars' crowns new champion amid controversy

On the season finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, a new queen was crowned, but not without some controversy, at least among fans. It came down to four final contestants: BeBe Zahara Benet, Kennedy Davenport, Shangela, and Trixie Mattel. It was up to previously eliminated contestants to narrow the field down to two, and the honor went to Trixie and Kennedy. The two of them had a lip sync battle to Miley Cyrus’s hit “Wrecking Ball,” and RuPaul chose the winner. RuPaul dramatically said, “Ladies, I have made my decision. The queen who has earned her spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame, the champion of All Stars 3 is…Trixie Mattel.” But this came with its fair share of controversy. Many fans thought that Shangela should have been at least in the top two if not the outright winner. Even though some fans may be disappointed by the outcome, Trixie was grateful for the honor. “I know you guys are looking for someone who can carry a legacy,” Trixie said. “As an all star I feel like I’ve been carrying that legacy since I left the first time, so this means a lot. Thank you very much.” RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on VH1.
