“Mad Men” alum January Jones has joined the cast of Netflix’s figure skating drama “Spinning Out.”
Jones will play Carol Baker, the mother of Kat (Kaya Scodelario) and Serena (Willow Shields). The cast also includes Evan Roderick, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, Sarah Wright Olsen, Will Kemp, Kaitlyn Leeb, Amanda Zhou and Mitchell Edwards.
Carol is a former high-level figure skater who had to forfeit her dreams when she became pregnant with her oldest daughter at a young age. The head of the Baker family, Carol fiercely pushes both her girls to become Olympians in order to fulfill the dream she could never achieve herself. Simultaneously, she struggles with personal demons that threaten to ruin her relationship with her daughters.
Here’s the official logline for the series, which received a 10-episode series order at the streamer: “When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and her new partner will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.”
Samantha Stratton (“Mr. Mercedes”) is creator and showrunner, executive producing alongside co-showrunner Lara Olsen. Tory Tunnell (“Safehouse”) and Joby Harold (“Safehouse”) also executive produce.
Jones is best known for starring on AMC’s “Mad Men” for seven seasons as Betty Draper, and most recently starred on the former Fox comedy “Last Man on Earth.”
