'She led the way': Teri Hatcher, Dana Delany, and other Lois Lanes pay tribute to Margot Kidder

Margot Kidder was one of several actresses to play the role of Lois Lane, but the four-timer — Superman, Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace — remains the most memorable. Following the news of her passing, on Sunday at the age of 69, some of the others who went on to inhabit the role paid tribute to the “iconic Lois.”

Teri Hatcher shared a photo of Kidder in character as Lois — in a Superman sweater typing away at her desk at the Daily Planet — and wrote that it was a “privilege” to have shared the role with her. The Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman star from 1993 to 1997 added that Kidder, whose cause of death hasn’t been released, “led the way brilliantly.”

Dana Delany, who grew up with Lois Lane as her “role model” and later voiced the character in the Justice League animated TV series and other projects, has called Kidder the “iconic Lois.”

And she retweeted this popular GIF of Kidder and her Superman, the late Christopher Reeve, flying off together.

Amy Adams — who played the role in a few flicks, including Man of Steel — isn’t on social media, but her husband, Darren Le Gallo, is, and he paid tribute to “the original Lois Lane” with a throwback.

Oddly enough, Kidder said that her biggest beef with Batman v Superman was the way Adams’s Lois was treated. “They took one of the best American actresses around, Amy Adams, and didn’t give her anything to do!” Kidder said in shock. “I mean, how stupid is that?”

Erica Durance, who played the role in Smallville (and got props from Kidder), called the late star a “kick-ass lady.” Kidder had a guest role on the show.

Meanwhile, Pauley Perrette, amid her current drama following her exit from NCIS, said that Kidder “inspired” her when she tackled the voice role.

Some of the other famous women to have played the character include Noel Neill, who had it before Kidder (and played Kidder’s mom in Superman), and Kate Bosworth, who came after.

Kidder played many other roles, but she was beloved by fans for playing Lois and regularly appeared at fan conventions and events. In fact, she was scheduled to appear at Motor City Comic Con in Michigan this weekend, alongside some other Superman cast members, for a discussion about the film’s legacy. It will still take place with the other panelists.
